The Czech University of Life Sciences Prague – CULS

The Czech University of Life Sciences Prague – CULS (www.czu.cz) is one of leading educational and research centres for agrarian sector, forestry, environment, landscape and water management, economics, rural and regional development in the Czech Republic. It consists of six faculties (Agrobiology, Food & Natural Resources, Economics & Management, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Tropics & Subtropics, Wildlife & Wood Sciences) and one institute (Tropics & Subtropics, Education & Communication). Since the university uses the effects of collaborative works, the main faculty involved will be the Faculty of Economics and Management, employing 250 teachers and researchers. The Faculty is ranked by the Czech government among the top five economic faculties in the Czech Republic. Its research and education focus is in agricultural economics, management and rural development, including the research on food supply chains, sustainability, organic farming, and social aspects of land and water management, both on national and international level. The faculty staff plays the important role in designing rural and agricultural policy in the Czech Republic through participating in national panels and providing the expert consultations.

CULS will be mainly involved in WP5 and will contribute to work in other WPs .

The CULS Team

Assoc. prof. Lukáš Čechura

(male) – an associate Professor at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, Faculty of Economics and Management, Department of Economics since 2010 with a specialisation in the economics of agricultural and food markets. He teaches and guarantees the lecturing of Econometrics, Forecasting and Economics. In his professional work he is focusing on productivity and efficiency analysis and theoretical and empirical modelling of the agri-food market functioning, price transmission and market power in agri-food chains. During his professional life he has been involved in several national (granted by Ministry of Agricultural Czech Republic and Ministry of Education Youth and Sports Czech Republic) and international projects (6th FP GRAIN LEGUMES, 6th FP CERTOST and 7th FP COMPETE – work package leader). Moreover, he coordinated large Institutional research intention of Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport Czech Republic at the Faculty of Economics and Management and participated on several commissioned studies for Agricultural Policy Research Network in Canada. He is a member of Czech Academy of Agricultural Sciences (leader of Economic section), many other economics societies and associations, member of editorial board and provides consultant services for private sector as well as for Ministry of Agriculture Czech Republic. Recently he was a member of the Expert body of Ministry of Agriculture of Czech Republic for creation of Strategy of Czech agriculture and is a co-author of the ´Strategy for a Growth: Czech agriculture and food processing industry in frame of CAP after 2013´. He is an author or coauthor of more than 80 research papers or articles.

Dr. Lenka Rumánková

(female) – an assistant Professor at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, Faculty of Economics and Management, Department of Economics finished her Ph.D. in year 2009. In her professional work, i.e. research as well as teaching, she is focused on quantitative methods applied in the analysis of the agri-food chains. Her lectures and seminars provide both, the theoretical background and practical application of selected methods of economic data analysis. In her research activities she is focusing on the time series analysis as well as panel data examination. Econometric modelling, time series analysis and forecasting methods are used to analyze the price transmission, market equilibrium, efficiency, productivity and forecasting. She was involved in several national projects granted by Ministry of Education Youth and Sports Czech Republic.

Dr. Michal Malý

(male) – an assistant Professor at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, Faculty of Economics and Management, Department of Economics has specialised in the economics of agri-food markets and agricultural policy. In his professional work he is especially focusing on the theoretical and empirical modelling of the agri-food market functioning and the evaluation of the impact of EU common agricultural policy on the supply chains. He was involved in many research projects at the level of internal research activities of the Czech University of Life Sciences, the Czech Science Foundation, the Agency for Agricultural Research and in the solution of 7th FP – COMPETE. In educational practice he teaches and guarantees the lecturing of vocational subjects such as: econometrics, sectoral economy, economic policy, agriculture and structural policies, while he cooperates with the private sector in solving current problems in agricultural food markets. At the same time, he is a professional consultant and evaluator for the area of Agricultural Economics in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture Czech Republic, or for example Institute of Agricultural Economics and Information.

Dr. Zdeňka Žáková Kroupová

(female) – an assistant Professor at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague -has specialised in the agricultural economics and the public economics. Her professional work consists of both teaching and research activities. In her teaching activities she mainly deals with empirical analysis of economic phenomenon related to agricultural and public economics. Her research activities are focusing on the productivity and technical efficiency analysis of agricultural producers and on the impacts of agricultural policies on performance of agribusiness connected also with the production of public goods and externalities. She was involved in several national projects and recently in the solution of 7th FP – COMPETE.
